It’s not quite gold, but it’s not quite silver either, so I guess this Pailette Covered Clutch by Miu Miu will coordinate equally well with both. Details include the all-over pailette blending from silver to bronze, a happy pink lining, and a long zip closure along the top ending in a wristlet-style loop handle with a little dangling heart charm. I especially like this clutch it because it looks easy to use during different seasons — in the spring play up the pink and in the fall accentuate the bronze/gold tones. $420

If you want a bag that’s super feminine without being too terribly frilly this pink Stam Ostrich Tote by Marc Jacobs might be what you’re looking for. It is big and pink but it’s an earthy shade, plus the ostrich leather gives it an interesting texture. Silver hardware includes a detachable chain shoulder strap and a logo clasp at the top for closure, and other than that it’s a pretty simple and straightforward design with a roomy interior (just one zip pocket) lined in leather. $5,500 %Gallery-31210%

It’s been two long years since famed Chloé resuscitator Phoebe Philo left the studio to focus on her family. But come October, Philo will take over as Creative Director at Celine, in a move that parent co. LVMH hopes will again breathe new life into a flagging luxury brand.

Credited for designing perhaps the mother of all It-bags, the Chloé Paddington, Philo started out as Stella McCartney’s assistant at Chloé before McCartney left to design her own eponymous line. And like everything in fashion, Philo’s appointment makes whatever happens at fashion week (which starts today in New York) feel like old news. She’ll present her first collection for Celine in March 2009.

I’m not crazy about the triangular shape of this crocodile pelham shopper bag from Gucci but otherwise it’s a standard, versatile shoulder bag that’s sure to be useful as well as fashionable. Featuring crocodile in dark green with silver hardware and two braided straps, the bag also has horsebit accents, tab-snap closure, protective feet on the bottom, and an inside zip pocket. Measuring 19.3″ x 5.1″ x 11″ it’s an attractive and generously sized bag but I must admit I’m not sure what exactly warrants the sky high (even for Gucci) price of $22,900.

Thanks to the calculator-savvy fashion dept. over at Vanity Fair, we’ve got an estimated grand total for Cindy McCain’s outfit from Tuesday evening’s Republican National Convention festivities. The final cha-ching? $300,000. Highlights include her Oscar de la Renta fierce-collared shirtdress, a pair of $280,000 diamond sparklers and Chanel’s J12 white ceramic watch. The shoes have yet to be identified — any guesses readers? (I’m betting Manolo.)

At least in the realm of fashion, Cindy is the elitist in this race. Remember Michelle Obama’s pick for her appearance on The View? A $148 number from mass chain White and Black.

Matching luggage was all the rage at one point but today the trend seems to be moving away from brightly colored bags so perfectly matched they’re all but identical to more gently coordinated sets like this Boardroom Collection from Mulholland Brothers. Made from materials that could do double duty as a business suit, the bags feature all the class and reserve of pinstripes and leather plus a few splashes of modern style in the way of the occasional bright print. Prices range from $92-$610 and the set include every shape and size you could possible need, from wallets to garment bags to carry ons.

The latest collection from former Gucci mens design director and Prada Uomo designer, Neil Barrett, takes the unique name, Sartorial Gymnast. You won’t find leotards and shiny Lycra here, instead Barrett interprets this theme through deconstructed apparel that is still somehow sharp and edgy. The fabrics are soft and allow for ease of movement but are also demanding for all but the slimmest of physiques. Perhaps the “gymnast” name come from the lean body you need to pull this look off. Barrett could give Hedi Slimane a run for his money with these unforgiving styles.

For Vogue India’s latest issue, editors decided to shoot some of the country’s poorest citizens modeling such luxury goods as a Hermes Birkin bag and a Burberry umbrella. An older woman — missing her upper teeth — held a baby wearing a Fendi bib which cost as much as she might earn over a several month period. (Remember most of India still lives on little more than a dollar a day.) The juxtaposition has a number of Vogue readers (and non-readers) astir.

In a place polarized by caste and an exceptionally apparent disparity of wealth, one would think Vogue might have been a little more discreet. What infuriates me most about the photo spread is that Vogue didn’t even get the names of the men, women and children posing. They are simply referred to as “lady” or “man” while the cutline goes into great detail about the various objects they model — people as props, handbags as the main story.

The real shame? That somehow poverty never quite goes out of fashion.

Well it looks like this rumors we heard at the end of July were true, minimalist fashion line JIl Sander has been sold again. Private-equity firm Change Capital Partners Monday sold the German label to Japan’s Onward Holdings Company for a cool €167 million ($245 million). Not quite the 200 million euros Vogue UK had reported they wanted but not too shabby either considering Change Capital Partners paid €50 million two and a half years ago.Onward Holdings will also repay €45 million in debt. Onward owns Italian clothing manufacturer Gibo and has been looking to expand their fashion interests abroad.

As Louis Vuitton’s latest line in collaboration with an outside talent hits stores, the fashion house’s designer Marc Jacobs says the increasingly frequent projects have gotten out of hand. Vuitton’s new collection designed by Comme des Garçons‘ Rei Kawakubo just went on sale in Tokyo, but unlike previous LV collections by Takashi Murakami (far right, with Jacobs) and Richard Prince, Jacobs complains that he had no creative input on Kawakubo’s, New York magazine reports.

“I’ve kind of warned everybody up there [at LV] that I think they’ve gotten a little too into this idea ,” Jacobs says. “I’m glad that everybody gets behind it, but what they don’t realize is that I do it at a pace that maintains the brand’s integrity and seems really right, and I think that sometimes everybody loves a good idea so much that they kind of go too far and it kind of kills it.” This could be an indication that despite the massive profits brought in by the trendy collaborations, they could be coming to an end soon, or at least slowing down considerably.
